ACTOR WRITER COMPOSER DIRECTOR EDUCATOR
Harrison Lewis (he/they) is a multi-hyphenate actor, writer, composer, director, and educator. He recently received his M.A. in Creative Media and Technology as part of BerkleeNYC's Writing and Production for Musical Theatre Program, where he had the opportunity to develop his two thesis musicals Seven Steps Around the Fire (w/ Emielyn Das - Album Release Spring 2025, EnActe 2025) and The Boy Who Painted the Sky (w/ Katie Brady and Madeleine Skye).
He previously graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University's School of Communication, where he studied musical theatre writing and performance and developed multiple of his original works. His debut musical, The Dogwood Trees (O'Neill NMTC Semi-Finalist) has been lauded by Chicago theatre professionals as "stunning", "emotionally powerful", "rich", and "elegant", with one professor calling it "the single most impressive piece of writing that I have witnessed from a young artist" (David H. Bell). His subsequent works Behind the Mirrors (a play with music) and Waterland (w/ Matthew Millin - AMTP 2023) have received equally positive reactions in early developmental readings.
Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, he began performing at a young age, working professionally in productions like Bull Durham (Alliance Theatre) and On Golden Pond (Gypsy Theatre Company) before eventually making his New York debut as a nominee at the 2019 National High School Musical Theatre (Jimmy) Awards. Over the years, he picked up various instruments such as piano, guitar, and saxophone from his musician parents and discovered a passion for storytelling through music. His subsequent work as an actor and director has spanned from staged readings to film, having been selected as a director for the Agnes Nixon Playwriting Festival in 2023 and having acted in a variety of leading roles at the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts. As a director, he has been described as a "wunderkind" with a "unique gift of clarifying the central dramatic issue in a scene".
As an artist and educator, he is committed to uplifting the next generation of underrepresented voices, themes, and ideas while challenging the ways we think about creating. He frequently collaborates with Chicago artists Jessica Thebus and Julie Marie Myatt on their devised plays, composing the scores for How to Know the Wildflowers: A Map (Wirtz Center 2024) and The Beyond (Writers Theatre 2025). He has also worked for many years as a teaching artist and private tutor and currently assists students at The Door and Age for Stage with various musical endeavors including piano, voice, songwriting, arranging, music theory, notation, and production (Logic).
Harrison is a proud member of Actors' Equity Association as well as the Dramatists Guild. In addition to his work in the arts, he is an avid nature-lover and can often be found on hiking/kayaking excursions in the Catskills on the weekends!! :)
